Miami Heat Governor Micky Arison Elected Next NBA Board of Governors Chairman

The NBA has announced a major leadership change.

Commissioner Adam Silver revealed that Miami Heat Governor Micky Arison has been unanimously elected as the next Chairman of the NBA Board of Governors. Arison will officially assume the role following the league’s Board of Governors meeting in September 2026.

Arison, who has served as the Heat’s governor since purchasing the franchise in 1995, succeeds the current chairman after receiving unanimous support from the league’s ownership group. During his tenure, the Heat have become one of the NBA’s model organizations, winning three NBA championships (2006, 2012, and 2013) and making multiple NBA Finals appearances.

As Chairman of the Board of Governors, Arison will work closely with Commissioner Adam Silver and the league’s owners on key issues affecting the NBA, including league governance, business initiatives, media rights, competitive matters, and the league’s long-term strategic direction.

The unanimous vote underscores the confidence NBA owners have in Arison’s leadership and experience as one of the league’s longest-tenured franchise governors.

With Arison set to take over in September, he will play a significant role in guiding the NBA through an era of continued global growth, evolving media partnerships, and future expansion discussions.
